If
your dog has eaten something poisonous and you are immediately there or within 2
hours, you must mak your dog vomit, but first of all call your vet !! he or she
will tell you what to do.
If
you must make your dog vomit, make sure it is recommended to do so. Don't make
your dog vomit in the next cases :
-
more then 2 hours after taking the poisonous product.
-
when the product is a sour, alkali, solvent or petrol product, it makes as much
damage in
coming up as going down.
-
when your dog is in a coma or depressed.
To
make your dog vomit :
- 1
teaspoon hydro peroxide for 15 kg bodyweight; do it once and repeat after 10
minutes; max 3 times ! some dogs drewl a lot and look very miserable before
vomiting.
-
½ to
1 teaspoon salt way back on
the toung or solved in water; don't repeat this !!!!It can also be done with
dry mustard powder.
You can also give your
dog active carbon or toasted bread (well burned, crushed in the
hand) can be used
! ! !

- CHOCOLATE
: contains

, 2 compounds that a dog
digestivesystem can't deal with, they go round in an endless circle in the body,
till it get finally poisoned.
(Symptoms
occur with the ingestion of 45 mg per pound of body weight. Theobromine deaths
have been reported after ingestion of 52 mg per pound of body weight). The
different types of chocolate, contains amounts of these compounds. Milkchocolate
is less
poisoning then pure
chocolate. (this is the same for coca cola, coffee and thea)
- tablescraps that has
to be avoided : duck, wildroast, pig- and calksmeat are all to fat
for the digestive
system ofthedog. SPiced food like ham are likely to upset the dogs stumach.
Boiled chickenbones, turkeybones or steakbones are too fragile and scharp (can
cause perforations)
- Raw fish, dogs can
get "salmon poisoningdiseas" if they eat raw with parasites contained fish from
creeks or rivers.
- ognions, raw, boiled
or even dried have a toxic effect on the dog and cat.
- appricots,
avocado's, garlic, mushrooms, nutmuscat, peaches, rabarb, spinach, tonsils,
potatoleaves, tomato and his leaves and carrots, ...
- All alcohol
containing drinks

plastic wrappings and alumniumfoil. Dogs eat this because of the foodsscraps
that are on them. The wrapping can cause suffocation or intestineblockades with
internal bleedings

nuts : wallnuts are poisonous to dogs and are to avoid. In particular there is
a fungus that is often seen in these nuts (specially with wet dead walnuts) and
that can cause serious periods of illness. A lot of the nuts aren't good for
dogs in general, their high fosfor containage is to be assumed to cause
kidneyproblems and gallblatter stones.

potatoes : potato poisoning is seen as wel in dogs as in humans. Raw potatoes,
especially the pealings are very toxic for a dog. Brussels sprouts too.

Remark :
boiles
or mashed potatoes are good for a dog, even very nutricious BUT not spiced with
anything at all. Just boiled

Turkeyskin is assumed to cause acute pancreatis in dogs.
Also
pay attention by cold weather
-
unthercooling :
If your dog is exposed to
extreme cold or it is cold and wet at the same time for longer periods, there is
a chance for unthercooling. If your dogs temperature is below 34°C call your
vet immediately. Small or shorthaired dogs must wear a protection sweater if
they have to go outside. Look if your dog is shaking or uncomfortable if he is
outside in the winter.

frozen chain burnwounds. Dogs that have a metal chain when outside in very cold
weather can get burningswounds on their skin.
-
chemics for melting ice and even salt, both used to clear paths and streets can
cause severe burningwounds on the footpads of your dog. If your dog is exposed
to these products clean his feeth very carefully !! Watch also out that he
doesn't eat from it !!

anti-freeze or ethyleen glycol is very attractive to dogs and cats because of it
sweet taste. If your pet has eaten from this product, even a small amount CALL
YOUR VET IMMEDIATELY !!

WEATHER
- overheating.
Dogs that are in a vehicule
that is pourely ventilated or notventilated at all or even in rooms that aren't
properly ventilated can have overheating, dogs in full sun also of course. It
can cause exhaustion or a sun burn. Othercause of these are : heavy training
with hot weather with lack of fresh water or lack of shade. The signs that your
dog is suffering from the heat are : a fast and difficult breathing, a body
temperature above 39°C, extreme drewling, clear red toung and mouth, possible
vomitting, diarrea and/or coma or unanswered behaviour.
